ZETA ZETA CHAPTER HISTORY

The Zeta Zeta Chapter was initially chartered during the Roaring ’20s. In 1926, six (6) years after our illustrious Sorority was founded, Zeta Zeta Chapter was chartered in Chicago, IL. Since its inception, the Zeta Zeta Chapter has held upon its membership, various prestigious women.


She was the first female Law School Graduate in Illinois and the First African American Woman admitted to practice law before the US Supreme Court. During her term, it was decided to hold the Boule in Houston, Texas. No other black Greek-lettered organization had ever held a convention south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Violette N. Anderson – 8th International President (1933-1937)

Lullelia Walker Harrison – 12th International President (1943-1948)

A Zeta Zeta member during her graduate studies at the University of Chicago, she was a mentee of Violette N. Anderson. During her term, she grew Zeta from 50 chapters to 150 chapters. Also, credited as the founder of the Amicae Auxiliary.

A renowned and accomplished religious musician. During her term, the Zeta National office was located in the Great Lakes Region.

Blanche Jackson Thompson – 11th International President (1940-1943)

She was the the first to offer Honorary Memberships to nationally renowned film stars and recording artists. During her term, the Stork's Nest Program was expanded, National Headquarters was refurbished, and the first Archonettes handbook was published. She was also the first administrator to hold a regional conference on the continent of Africa.

Zeta Zeta Chapter was re-chartered on October 3, 1987, by thirty-three graduate and professional women. Four of whom, are still active members of the chapter today (Darcel Beavers, Rosalind Lane-Ragland, Julia Veazey, and Zonnie Bunch-Smith).

Today, the Zeta Zeta Chapter is the current home for over 85 women from various educational backgrounds who each brings a wealth of information, resources and experiences that have made the Zeta Zeta chapter a force to be reckoned with!

Since 1987, Zeta Zeta has awarded over 200 academic scholarships to high school students, we have provided philanthropic service to individuals, communities, charitable organizations and held annual programs in accordance with the International Programmatic Efforts of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. The chapter has adopted and volunteers with numerous organizations including:
